Velké Opatovice belongs to small towns of former district Blansko with a long-time tradition of refractory ceramic production. The school was founded at the beginning of the 60th years (of the last century) as a educational establishment of a local plant Moravské šamotové a lupkové závody. The following professions started to be taught here: ceramic and construction professions a shape-maker of refractory ceramic, a bricklayer, a producer of construction ceramic. ¨Technical professions- an electrician a locksmith, a wood-shaper, a tinsmith, an insulation-worker , a motor-mechanic, a mechanic repairman, a fitter of acoustic apparatus, an electro-mechanic, a machine-mechanic.

An educational offer, a management of school and its incorporation to the plant structure have changed together with social changes and needs of local firms and also thanks to development of a ceramic industry (within the framework of all-republic association ČKZ).

Since 70th years (of the last century) the offer of the school have been extended and new professions have been taught a ceramic-worker for construction production, a ceramic-worker for construction and refractory ceramic, a ceramic-worker for porcelain an ceramic- and since 90th years-an art ceramic, addition professions for an enterprise in art and technical occupations, artisans workmanship of stone and ceramic.

Since this year we can offer new art professions: art workmanship of ceramic and porcelain- creation of ceramic and art workmanship-creation of stove. The choice of professions has stabilized according to needs of a region so that the graduates of our school will be able to find their professional use. Since the end of 80th years.

Practical as well as theoretical training have been providing in a new and modern buildings connected with own boarding-house and school canteen with full well-balanced board. Special classrooms of computers, typing, photo-lab, art-studio and sport area can be used the whole day. Practical training is going in modern and purposeful workplaces with a good technical equipment and social background. Except of obligatory products students with their erudite teachers can experiment with various materials, glazes, decors. They constantly produce new sorts sets and solitaires. These product can be bought in own school shop, too.

There is also a high level of teaching of drawing, painting and modelling. This intents on education of entirely educated personalities qualified to design shape, material and colour of the product. We aim to encourage our students to be creative authors of their projects. Some successful works are for example collection of reproductions of neolitic cups for MK Zlín, bust of first-republic minister English monumental mural paintings for institution of social care in Velké Opatovice, relieve of André Citroën for André Citroën secondary school in Boskovice etc.

The teaching aims of the professions, contents of the teaching syllabus have been gradually upgraded and adjusted in cooperation of the department of education, the national institution of professional education and have been consulted in cooperation of school department of the regional office, the above offices, the represent ants of the economics chambers. We try to follow our graduates to comply constantly more exacting qualification and skill but also for universality, adaptability, flexibility. We wont them to have a good possibility to assert themselves in the competition of the labour market. Within more than 40 years of the existence of the school. There are nearly 4.000 graduates from all the parts of the country. Most of them found a good assertion in their profession, a lot of them continued their studying and obtained either full secondary or university education.

Names of many of our graduates are well-known among ceramics, painters and artists in the whole country and this fact obliges us to the further improving, of the quality of the educational process and promotion of the good name of our school.
